Lovelock Correctional Center employees collected 16 backpacks and various school supplies during their annual Back-to-School drive. LCC employees AAI Susan Sparke (left) and correctional officer Michael Hamling (right) show two of the 16 backpacks collected by prison employees. Prison officials donated the backpacks, along with some school supplies, to the Imlay Elementary School. The rest of the school supplies were donated to the Lovelock Elementary School. "We just try to give back to the community in any way that we can," Lt. Valaree Olivas said about why the LCC employees do their annual school supply drive. LCC was recently nominated for an American Red Cross Real Hero award for its community involvement. In addition to its annual Back-to-School drive, the prison holds quarterly blood drives, participates in the Relay for Life and supports a Peace Corps volunteer.
