LAS VEGAS - ESPN Regional Television, a subsidiary of ESPN, and the Las Vegas Bowl have announced that the 2013 game will be played Saturday, Dec. 21, at 12:30 p.m. at Sam Boyd Stadium.
The 22nd Las Vegas Bowl will be televised nationally on ABC, featuring the top choice from the Mountain West against the fifth pick from the Pac-12 Conference.
This will mark only the second time that the Las Vegas Bowl (formerly MAACO Bowl Las Vegas) will appear on ABC and first time since 2001 when Utah defeated USC 10-6.
That game, which was played on Christmas Day, remains the highest-rated Las Vegas Bowl in history with a household TV rating of 4.7. Last season, only one bowl game was broadcast by ABC (Capital One Bowl on New Year's Day).
This will mark the second consecutive Saturday kickoff in Las Vegas Bowl history and seventh overall.
It will also be the bowl's seventh day game.
"We had a tremendously positive response to playing a weekend day game last year so we are very pleased that the calendar works out this year that we can offer that again," said Dan Hanneke, Las Vegas Bowl executive director.
"We love our date and time and think this will benefit the city of Las Vegas as well as the fan bases of the two teams that will play in the 22nd Las Vegas Bowl."
Last year's edition - which attracted 33,217 fans to Sam Boyd Stadium - earned the third highest TV rating in the game's history as No. 15 Boise State defeated first-time visitor Washington 28-26. It marked the eighth consecutive year that the game attracted a crowd of more than 32,000.
The Las Vegas Bowl is owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television, which owns and operates a total of seven bowl games.
Tickets for this year's Las Vegas Bowl will go on sale to the public Monday, August 5, and will remain at the same levels ($25, $35, $55, $100) as last year until Sunday, Dec. 1, when prices will increase by $10 each. For more information call (702) 732-3912.
