Lander County moves forward with Community Rating System

RENO - Summit Engineering and Lander County are currently working with Insurance Services Office (ISO)/Community Rating System Specialist (CRS) David Arkens to prepare the CRS application.

A CRS new application visit was held on Nov. 8 with Arkens, Lander County officials and Steve Morton, with Summit Engineering. At this meeting, Lander County set forth what activities they were applying for and provided some documentation for those credits.

A 30-day letter was issued by Arkens which requires additional information for the specific activity credits that have been requested by Lander County. Lander County will need to provide all the additional information by Dec. 16 in order to enter into the CRS program.

"It is very important that we provide all the documentation included in the 30-day letter to the best of our ability," said Morton. "If we provide the required information to Dave Arkens in the required time frame, I feel we have a good chance of entering into the CRS program and getting at least a 5 percent reduction in flood insurance premiums for the Lander County community."

It is important to enter into the system this year, since the CRS Coordinator's Manual will be modified next year, Morton added.
