Lander County Health Fair a success

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - On Oct. 15, Battle Mountain General Hospital/Clinic, in conjunction with Newmont Mining Corp., The Tire Factory, Barrick Cortez, Marigold Mining Company and Wells Fargo Bank, sponsored the Lander County Health Fair.

Approximately 350 people stopped to have blood tests done and many others came to visit the 30 booths. The civic center was full to capacity with health care providers giving free health information.

Over 400 flu shots were given during a community preparedness drill by the Community Health Nurse and other volunteers. The Helping Hands Emergency Food Bank raffled off a fall basket, provided by the Battle Mountain General Hospital Employee Fund, for those who brought in canned goods. Free items for breakfast were provided by the Battle Mountain General Hospital. Newmont Mine Safety and Marigold Mine Safety had their equipment on site for visitors to explore.

Juanita Holwerda, health fair coordinator, would like to thank the volunteers, vendors and sponsors and the community for making the 2011 Lander County Health Fair a success.[[In-content Ad]]
