Lander County Conservation District honors Pete Tomera

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Pete Tomera was honored recently for his 16 years of volunteer service on the Lander County Conservation District Board.

Tomera began his first appointment to the board on Nov. 5, 1996, and retired Dec. 31, 2010.

Significant accomplishments of the Lander County Conservation District and highlights during his years of service are the construction of a drift fence protecting the Hilltop community from free ranging livestock, the creation of a cost share program designed to assist farmers and ranchers with the cost of controlling noxious weeds and invasive rodents and numerous herbicide trials and conservation practice demonstrations that were completed.
