The McDermitt High School girls basketball team began the Division IV East schedule on a high note last weekend with a pair of wins on the road.
The Lady Bulldogs knocked off Wells 62-40 on Friday, Jan. 9, and Jackpot 71-20 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 2-0 in league play and 11-3 overall.
McDermitt led from the start against Wells, using a 16-10 run in the first quarter to build a six-point lead. Leading 42-33 entering the fourth quarter, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 22-7 spurt in the final eight minutes to secure the victory.
McDermitt was 27-of-62 from the field with a majority of the points coming in the paint. The Lady Bulldogs were 3-of-10 from the 3-point line. McDermitt dominated the boards with 49 rebounds, including 19 on the offensive end. In addition, the Lady Bulldogs had nine steals.
McDermitt broke open a close contest after one quarter of play at Jackpot by outscoring the Jaguars 45-10 in the second and third quarters, including a 27-3 run in the third quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs are back home this weekend to host Carlin tonight at 5:30 p.m. and Owyhee on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Braves are also undefeated in the Division IV East and are coming off a win over Eureka, who was undefeated on the season.[[In-content Ad]]
