Lady Bulldogs sweep Jackpot, fall to Wells in league battle

McDermitt hosts Eureka on Saturday

The McDermitt High School volleyball team used a pair of wins over Jackpot last Saturday to inch closer to a playoff berth in the Division IV Regional Championships that will take place in Elko on Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8.

The Lady Bulldogs (6-3 Division IV East) swept the Jaguars in one of their few doubleheaders on the season.

Before heading to the Idaho border, McDermitt made a stop in Wells last Friday night to face the Leopards. Wells completed the season sweep with a 25-15, 25-11 and 25-16 win.

The Lady Leopards raced out to an 11-2 advantage in the opening set, only to see McDermitt come back and cut the deficit to 15-9. That was as close as the Lady Bulldogs got, with the Leopards pulling away for the win.

The second set went back-and-fort at the start with Wells leading 7-4. The Leopards scored the next four points off of two aces and two hitting errors by McDermitt to go in front 11-4. Wells continued to increase the lead to 15-6 and 23-10 and won the set 25-11.

McDermitt kept the third set close, trailing 5-4, when Wells went on another strong run, scoring six consecutive points to increase the lead to 11-4. The Leopards used another spurt to go in front 18-8 and the teams traded the next eight points as the Leopards kept the lead at 22-12.

McDermitt makes its home finale on Saturday against Eureka at 10 a.m. It is also Homecoming for the Lady Bulldogs.[[In-content Ad]]
