The McDermitt High School volleyball team capped off last week with a five-set victory at Carlin on Thursday, Oct. 9, to complete the season sweep of the Railroaders.
The Lady Bulldogs (4-2 Division IV East) jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the first set, with the Railroaders scoring three of those points off missed serves. McDermitt maintained control of the set and cruised to the nine-point victory.
Both squads traded the lead in the early part of the second set, with Carlin taking a 10-9 advantage. The Lady Bulldogs scored the next two points to go up by a point, but that was the final lead of the set. The Railroaders scored the next four points and did not trail again.
Carlin held a 14-10 advantage in the third set, when McDermitt slowly climbed back into the set. The Lady Bulldogs picked up a couple of kills from Va Draunidalo and the junior closed out the set with three consecutive service points.
Carlin held a 13-8 lead in the fourth set, forcing McDermitt to call a timeout, but held the advantage the rest of the way to extend the match to a fifth set. The Lady Bulldogs scored the first two points of the fifth set, but the teams traded the lead on a couple of occasions, when McDermitt took control after a handful of Carlin errors.
McDermitt travels to Wells today for a 4 p.m. match and moves on to Jackpot on Saturday for an 11 a.m. start.[[In-content Ad]]
