TRUCKEE - Megan Lombardi was a busy goalkeeper Saturday.
While the Lowry junior denied her fair share of Truckee shots, she could only keep so many goals off the board against such a relentless offensive attack.
The Wolverines slipped seven goals past Lombardi and the Buckaroos while limiting the visitors to few attempts of their own in a 7-0 Northern Division I-A soccer victory.
"The first 10 minutes we were OK, but then they started picking our defense apart," said LHS coach Chris Entwistle, whose team fell to 3-1-1 on the season. "I thought we defended pretty well, but there was just a barrage of through balls."
Truckee, which had not played a game this season, looked sharp from the start. Using unselfish, precision passing, the Wolverines moved the ball around the field nearly at will, resulting in seven goals by seven different players.
"We've been heavily working on maintaining possession," said Truckee coach Katie Jamison, who was pleased with her team's season-opening effort.
The first goal came in the seventh minute. Senior speedster Quinn Parker broke away down the right side before delivering an accurate cross to junior Nichole Graham, who gather the assist and buried it for a quick 1-0 lead.
Ten minutes later, Tessa Manahan sent a through ball well ahead of Parker, and Parker chased it down in time to deliver a sliding goal in front of the charging Lombardi.
Truckee added a third goal in the 32nd minute when Marcelle Reynaud booted in a low, angled shot from about 30 yards.
While the Wolverines controlled possession throughout the half, Lowry junior Monique Rodriguez created a couple of opportunities on breakaway runs. She fired a shot wide of the goal on one attempt. Truckee's Sarah Svoboda ran her down on the other.
Truckee picked up where it left off the first half after the break. Ten minutes in, Lynde Tucker crossed a ball in to Daisy Rivera, who blasted a shot that bulged the back of the net to push the lead to 4-0.
Annika Winans got in on the scoring in the 60th minute when she connected with a left-footed shot from the top of the 18-yard box, while senior Kaylee Neill got in on the action with a breakaway goal in the 70th minute.
Truckee added a final goal with less than a minute left in the contest, courtesy of senior Claire Roberts.
"Offensively we couldn't get anything going," Entwistle said. "All props to them. Truckee has a good squad. They should do well this year."
The Lady Bucks are back at home Friday to play Sparks at 5 p.m. Lowry hosts South Tahoe at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings reached the Division I-A state semifinals a season ago before losing to eventual state champoion Pahrump Valley.
