WINNEMUCCA - The Lowry High School track and field team was back on the road this past Saturday at the Yerington Relays and turned in a number of strong performances.
The Lady Bucks finished fifth as a team with 58.50 points, while Spring Creek won the team title with 145.50 points. Churchill County (103.83), Hug (76) and Fernley (65.66) were second, third and fourth, respectively.
Raven Black and Rachel Sigurdson turned in a pair of second-place finishes for the Lowry girls. Black cleared 5 feet in the high jump and was one inch behind Fernley's Katelyn Braswell, who won with a mark of 5-1. Sigurdson had a mark of 8-6 in the pole vault, while Churchill County's Maddie Alegre won at 9-0.
In addition, Sigurdson was fourth in the high jump at 4-8 and Black cleared 7-0 in the pole vault to place eighth.
Savannah Ingram continued her strong senior season, finishing third in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 11.50 inches. She was 11th in the discus with a toss of 83-9.
Chandra Waner was the top discus thrower for the Lady Bucks once again as she finished fourth with a mark of 100-5. The junior placed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 28-1.25.
Rachel Jones rounded out the throwers for Lowry, with a seventh-place finish in the shot put (30-0.25) and eighth in the discus (86-4).
Courtney Boucher turned in a fourth-place finish in the 3,200 meters with a time of 16 minutes, 16.33 seconds, while Alex Schirrick was fifth in the 100-meter dash at 13.71. Schirrick also finished sixth in the 200 meters in a time of 28.46.
Dani Ricker placed seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 27-10 and the sophomore was 15th in the 100-meter hurdles at 21.41. Brittanie Lopez was 13th in the 400 meters (1:10.26) and Jasmine Anicker finished 14th in the 1,600 meters in a time of 6:45.93.
The 4x800 relay of Jancy Ulch, Lopez, Jillian Albright and Anicker were third with a time of 11:47.25.
On the boys side, Cody Andersen led the Buckaroos with a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 47-7.25. The senior was third in the discus with a toss of 137-4.
Fellow senior Taylor Martin placed fourth in the discus at 132-8 to go with a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 44-10.25. Sergio Castaneda provided Lowry with a third strong showing in the throwing events, finishing fifth in the discus with a mark of 131-11. The junior placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 44-0.
Robert Stepper was one four athletes to clear 5-6 in the high jump, as the senior finished eighth. Sophomore Hayden Jeppsen provided an eighth-place finish in the 3,200 meters with a time of 11:48.37 and Michael Billingsley (9-6) and Jeremiah Teichert (9-0) were eight and ninth, respectively, in the pole vault.
Frankie Flanders placed 15th in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 47.53, Kelvin Meza was 16th in the 400 meters at 56.28 and Beau Billingsley placed 18th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.22.
The 4x100 relay of Beau Billingsley, Meza, Dylan Riddle and Flanders were seventh in a time of 48.64. Beau Billingsley, Stepper, Meza and Riddle were 10th in the 4x200 relay at 1:44.41 and Joey Flanders, Riddle, Michael Wing and Meza placed eighth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:57.15. The 4x800 relay of Flanders, Jeppsen, Devin Morris and Jacob Welty were eighth in a time of 9:33.66.
As a team, the Buckaroos boys were eighth with 36 points. Churchill County ran away with the team championship with 174 points. Spring Creek was second with 92 points and Dayton was third at 82.50. Yerington (66) and Fernley (55) rounded out the top five.
Lowry is at home Saturday, as it hosts its invitational beginning at 9 a.m.
