The Lowry High School girls track and field team came back from the Yerington Relays last Saturday in the top spot out of 12 teams.
The Lady Bucks finished with 167 points, to beat second-place Dayton by 30 points. Fernley was third at 94.5 and Sierra Lutheran (64) and North Tahoe (54) were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Auri Criddle, Shelby Garrison, Hailey Hinkle and Kenadee Jeppsen won individual events for Lowry. Criddle paced the field in the 200 meters with a time of 28.35 seconds. The senior also claimed the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.83.
Hinkle, a freshman, made it a sweep of the hurdle events for the Lady Bucks, as she won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 50.06. In addition, she was second in the 1,600 meters at 5:56.33 and seventh in the high jump at 4-6. Garrison, also a freshman, took home the top spot in the 400 meters (1:04.11), she was 10th in the 200 meters at 29.87 and 12th in the high jump at 4-2..
Jeppsen had a strong day in her events, winning the triple jump with a leap of 33-3.50. She was second in the high jump, long jump and 300-meter hurdles. Jeppsen, a sophomore, cleared 5-0 in the high jump and she had marks of 14-6 in the long jump and a time of 51.32 in the hurdles.
Freshman Kepa Bengochea recorded two runner-up finishes in the 100-meter dash at 13.86 and the 400 meters in a time of 1:05.40 Jillian Albright finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 31-11 and Monique Rodriguez was second in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 18.01.
Madison Montero placed second in the pole vault, clearing 8-6 and the sophomore was fourth in the 200 meters at 28.89, while her sister, Meg Montero was sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 29.22.
Audrey Snow placed fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 14.16 and Shantell Pearrow recorded a top-10 finish in the shot put with a throw of 26-5.
Rodriguez, Snow, Madison Montero and Bengochea won the 4x100 relay for the Lady Bucks with a time of 53.47. Rodriguez, Criddle, Snow and Madison Montero led the way in the 4x200 relay at 1:53.55 and the 4x400 relay of Albright, Garrison, Bengochea and Hinkle were also victorious at 4:2.36.
On the boys side, Lowry finished fourth with 63.50 points. Dayton won the team title with 170 points and Fernley (114) and Yerington (74) were second and third, respectively.
Jared Carrica had the best finish for the Buckaroos, placing second in the discus, with a toss of 136. The junior also placed fourth in the shot put at 44-7.
Kobe Fitzpatrick (55.75) and Jed Teichert (56.03) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400 meters. Hayden Jeppsen finished fourth in the 3,200 meters at 11:16.20 and Roberto Sanchez was fourth in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-2 and the senior was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 38-0.
Omar Aranjo was seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.55, Brandon Dowd was seventh in the pole vault at 8-6 and Bryan Terry placed 10th in the discus at 98-7.
The 4x100 relay of Michael Wing, Alan Mayorga, Teichert and Sanchez won the race with a time of 47.09. The 4x800 relay of Devin Dowd, Jonathan Madrid, Christopher Kearns and Jeppsen were second at 9:29.46.
The 4x200 relay of Wing, Mayorga, Sanchez and Teichert were third in a time of 1:34.92.
Lowry will split up its teams this weekend, sending one group to the McQueen Frosh/Soph Invitational today and the Fallon Elks Invitational on Saturday.
