WINNEMUCCA - Lowry High School's Shelby McKinnon was named to the Division I-A all-state, first team softball squad by the league's respective coaches.
During her sophomore year at catcher, McKinnon had a batting average of .387 and 43 hits. She scored 47 runs, had 21 RBIs, seven doubles, three home runs and three triples. She was 39-of-41 in stolen base attempts this season.
Fernley's Diane Chapin was named the Coach of the Year. The Vaqueros defeated Churchill County to win the state championship this past May in Las Vegas.
The first team was comprised of Fernley's Taylor Hires-Caulk, Jordan King and Serna Olsen, Faith Lutheran's Stacie Graham, Cheyenne's Megan Ingram, Vanessa Sanders and Kelli Zufall, Chaparral's Nicole Lesniak, Boulder City's Charlie Masterson and Kasey Ochoa, Churchill County's Rileigh Ricken and Dayton's Makayla Shadel.
The Lady Bucks' Kylee McClellan and Jordan Mecham were named to the second team. In her sophomore year, McClellan led Lowry with a .509 batting average and had 57 hits in 112 at bats. She recorded nine doubles and nine triples and had a team-high 34 RBIs and six home runs.
Mecham was the Lady Bucks' top pitcher, as she went 20-7 on the season. The senior struck out 178 batters, compared to just 18 walks in 159.1 innings pitched.
The remainder of the second team included Churchill County's Kaysee Archer, Megan McCormick and Paige Thorne, Cheyenne's Courtney Gain, Fernley's Brooke Mattice, Mojave's Ashley Persico, Sparks' Riley Regas, SECTA's Jordyn Roark, Boulder City's Alyssa Ybarra and Faith Lutheran's Mandy Young.
