Lady Bucks cruise to victories over Wolverines, Railroaders

Lowry back on the road this weekend

The Lowry High School girls basketball team had little trouble as it went on the road for a pair of Division I-A North games.

The Lady Bucks traveled to Truckee on Saturday and came away with a 42-22 victory. Lowry was back on Interstate 80 on Tuesday to face Sparks and easily disposed of the Railroaders 62-26. The Lady Bucks are now 4-0 in the Division I-A North and 8-4 overall.

In the win over Truckee, Lowry broke a 6-6 tie with an 11-1 run in the second quarter and never looked back. The Lady Bucks led 17-7 at halftime and increased the margin 31-13 after three quarters of play.

Lowry picked up a balanced scoring attack from eight players, none of them scoring more than nine points. Kylee McClellan led the way with nine points, nine steals, five rebounds and two assists.

Alyssa Dendary added seven points, four assists and two steals and Jillian Albright, Jasmine Marchand and Payton Naveran each had six points. Marchand and Naveran grabbed seven and six rebounds, respectively, and Naveran had seven steals.

Meg Montero netted four points to go with seven rebounds and Chelsea Herrera and Alyssa Jones each had two points. In addition Jones had four rebounds and four assists and Herrera had three rebounds and a block.

Lowry, using a quicker pace to get up the floor, jumped out to a 17-8 lead over Sparks and continued to pour it on from there. The Lady Bucks outscored the Railroaders 17-3 in the second quarter, cruising to a 34-11 advantage at halftime.

Lowry continued to add on to its lead in the second half over the two-win Sparks squad. The Lady Bucks closed out the game with a 16-7 run in the final eight minutes.

Ten players scored on the night with Hayley Hall and Herrera pacing Lowry with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Shelby McKinnon, Caitlynn Cooper and Albright added eight points each, Jones and McClellan had four each and Maddie Mayo, Montero and Naveran two apiece.

Lowry rounds out a seven-game road trip this weekend, beginning tonight at Fernley at 6 p.m. The Lady Bucks move to Fallon on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip with Churchill County. The Greenwave are 3-1 in league, with their only loss coming against Elko.

Lowry will be at home to play Elko on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
