The Lowry High School girls soccer team has been one of the handful of squads that been road warriors to begin the season. The Lady Bucks closed out a stretch of five matches away from home last Saturday in Dayton.
Lowry (2-2-1 overall, 1-1 Division I-A North) had little trouble against the Dust Devils in the 5-0 victory as Dayton provided little resistance.
"We played really well and our passes were crisp," said LHS coach Melanie Rasor. "We did some good thing controlling the ball. We did a lot of work on crosses to the middle. We were not forcing the ball and possessing, which is a good thing for when we play the tougher teams."
Senior Monique Rodriguez put the Lady Bucks up 1-0 two minutes into the match and Caitlynn Cooper upped the advantage to 2-0 in the 30th minute and that remained the score at halftime.
Maddie Mayo gave Lowry a 3-0 lead early in the second half off a crossing pass from Rodriguez. Just a few minutes later, Rodriguez scored her second goal off an assist by freshman Bailey Sapien.
Alyssa Campbell closed out the scoring on a shot from about 18 yards out. Campbell, who usually is a defender, was moved up to the midfield and took advantage of the new position.
"We are doing a lot of good things right now," Rasor said. "The biggest thing is we need to finish better. We dominated play but left opportunities out on the field. I was very pleased with the defense"
Lowry made its home debut on Thursday and results were not available at press time. The Lady Bucks travel to Truckee on Saturday for a noon start and Elko Tuesday at 5 p.m.
"We take a step up in competition," Rasor said. "We have some tough games and if we can get a couple of wins that will be big."[[In-content Ad]]
