BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Tuesday afternoon resembled more of a practice than a game for the Lowry High School girls soccer team.

The Lady Bucks (7-6-2 overall, 2-5-1 Division I-A, 5-1 Ruby Mountain) took the short trip east to Battle Mountain and made easy work of the Longhorns, winning 8-0. Lowry has now won four matches in a row in the Ruby Mountain League.

"We wanted to work on a number of things and we used this match as a pre-game for Elko on Saturday," said LHS head coach Chris Entwistle. "It's good to see different fields and the long grass we had to play on today. It does help conditioning. We probably had over 20 crosses today, and that is something I wanted us to work on. Overall, the girls did a good job of doing what was asked of them."

Alyssa Jones put Lowry on the scoreboard 10 minutes into the match, after receiving a pass from Anna Davis near the Battle Mountain goal. Jones scored again eight minutes later to increase the advantage to 2-0.

Irdiana Sapien gave the Lady Bucks a 3-0 lead in the 28th minute and Maddie Mitch closed out the scoring in the first 40 minutes of play, with a goal in the 34th minute.

"We were really looking to score off of set plays today," Entwistle said. "We did a good job of spreading the scoring around to a number of players."

Monique Rodriguez scored the first of her three goals nine minutes into the second half, giving the Lady Bucks a 5-0 lead. Mitch added her second goal of the day five minutes later, and Rodriguez closed out the match with two more goals, finishing the day with a hat trick.

Savannah Ingram and Megan Lombardi split time in goal for the Lady Bucks. Lowry dominated the play for much of the match, and Battle Mountain did not get many shots on goal and never posed a threat to score.

"We were able to move some girls around on the field and let them play in different spots," added the coach. "Savannah was able to get out of the goal and on to the field and Megan did a good job as the goalkeeper in the second half."

The top spot in the Ruby Mountain League is at stake on Saturday, when Lowry travels to Elko for an 11 a.m. match. The Indians are currently undefeated in league play and beat the Lady Bucks 4-0 in Winnemucca on Sept. 22. Lowry returns home on Tuesday to face Spring Creek at 3 p.m.

"Hopefully, we can do something special against Elko," Entwistle said. "If we could steal a point from Elko that would be phenomenal. We are going to go in and play hard. We have two super important games coming up. If we can get points those games, we will set ourselves up good for the playoffs."
