WINNEMUCCA - Playing with just the minimum number of players for most of the season, the Lowry High School freshmen volleyball team ended its year on a high note on Saturday afternoon in Winnemucca with a 25-21 and 25-20 win over Spring Creek.
The Lady Bucks finished the year 11-5 in the Division I-A North and 14-7 overall.
The first set was a back-and-forth affair until Lowry broke a 9-9 tie with a 5-0 run to force Spring Creek to call a timeout. The Spartans closed the gap to 16-13 at one point, when Aimee Brandon countered with a kill and an ace and Tiana Herrera and Alexis Allen notched a kills to push the advantage back to 23-18. The Lady Bucks won the first set after a miss hit by the Spartans.
Trailing 2-1 in the second set, Lowry scored six points in a row off of three aces by Brandon and the Lady Bucks never looked back. Lowry pushed the advantage to seven points after a block by Amaya Herrera and an ace by Brandon.
Spring Creek rallied one last time and cut the deficit to 22-19, only to see Lowry score the final three points, with Allen ending the match on a kill.
Amaya Herrera finished with three aces and one block, while twin sister Tiana Herrera had one ace and one kill. Jade Moore added two aces, Brandon had four aces and three kills, Allen had three kills, one block and one assist and Annaleise Gabica finished with one dig.
