WINNEMUCCA -The Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary has kicked off its first annual "Koats for Kids" drive-just in time for the cold winter months.
Now through Friday, Nov. 2, the Poke N' Peek Thrift Shop is asking for donations of new and gently used children's coats.
According to Poke 'N Peek Vice Chairman Joe Gough, residents may donate coats for boys or girls in any size from newborn through adult sizes.
"We want to make sure that all kids-from babies to teenagers-stay warm and dry through the coming winter," said Gough.
The Poke N' Peek will accept coat donations during regular business hours. For after-hours donations, a drop-box is located to the west of the store entrance.
Gough said the Auxiliary is hoping to amass dozens of coats that they can give away during two distribution days set for Saturday, Nov. 3, and Saturday, Nov. 10, also at the thrift shop.
"We'll keep going until all our supplies are gone," said Gough. "Our community has been so generous in the past, we hope we can count on them again to make sure we help every kid in need."
The Poke N' Peek is the sole source of income for the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary, an all-volunteer organization whose members are distinguished by their pink coats.
The "pink ladies" and their gentlemen counterparts provide service in the various departments at Humboldt General Hospital as well as at the Poke N' Peek where volunteers sort, price, display and sell clothing, toys, books and household items.
With its profits from the thrift shop, the Auxiliary is able to purchase equipment for Humboldt General Hospital. Plus, the Poke N' Peek donates clothing and other goods during emergencies, such as fires and auto wrecks, as well as aids the Winnemucca Ministerial Association by providing clothing and household items to the needy and clothing to the residents of Harmony Manor and newborns at Humboldt General Hospital.
The Poke N' Peek Thrift Shop is located at 3200 Bengochea Circle in Sage Heights. The store's regular business hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday and from noon to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
