The Kingston Parks Department continues to strive to improve their community. With lots of volunteers, donations and grants, the parks department is achieving remarkable progress.

To date, it has cleaned up and fixed the old play equipment, the softball back stop and benches, planted trees and put in a drip system. Its greatest achievement was dredging the little pond, creating an island and connecting it with a bridge. The Kingston Pond has become a favorite attraction to visitors to Kingston.

John Miles, Kingston Parks director/volunteer stated, "We have big plans for our parks this year. We have started by replacing old and dead trees with healthy trees and evergreens and put them on a drip system. Next, we are in the process of designing and installing an automatic irrigation system for the Orchard. After completion, we will start on a covered pavilion and stage in the same area."

He added, "We have been working toward these projects for a number of years. With planning, fundraising, donated time, materials, and labor, we should be able to complete these projects by this summer. We will be replanting the Orchard lawn and installing a new hand wash station for our barbecue area also. We are currently pursuing a grant for new playground equipment and Parcourse, so that will be our next project, along with more trees.

The group just finished its annual clean up day. Many people came out to clean up a little part of Kingston.

"Afterward, we all got together for a barbecue in our beautiful park," Miles said. "The Kingston community is proud of what they have accomplished. We could not do it without the hearts of our volunteers."
