Kingston Jubilee to feature barbecues, live music and more Event to be held this weekend

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - People from Kingston and the surrounding areas are in for quite a treat this weekend when the Kingston Jubilee will brighten the atmosphere with barbecues, breakfast, live music, vendors, horseshoes and a dance.

The second annual Kingston Jubilee is being organized by John and Ann Miles of Miles End Lodge Bed and Breakfast. All of the activities will take place outside in the yard of the lodge.

The event will take place on Friday, June 13, from 3 p.m. until around 9:30 p.m., on Saturday, July 14, from 7 a.m. until around 11 p.m. and on Sunday, July 15, from 8 a.m. to noon.

"It is a lot of fun and we are going to have some really unique vendors," said Ann Miles. "It is an opportunity to buy some really unique art from local artisans. It provides an avenue so that people can get together and enjoy music and look at what our local artisans have."

The event costs $15 for the entire three days and the money will all go back into holding the event, said Ann Miles.

It will kick off July 13 with a hot dog and hamburger barbecue with chips included. Hot dogs will be sold for $4 and hamburgers will be $6. Margarita Beach will be open. Starting at dusk will be an outdoor movie with popcorn. The movie will be a surprise, said Ann Miles.

July 14 will consist of a full day of fun and events. It kicks off at 7 a.m. with an $8 breakfast that will include eggs, bacon and pancakes.

After breakfast, the vendors will open their booths. There are about a dozen vendors of all different kinds. Many are local artisans, said Ann Miles. One vendor will be making root beer floats while another will be selling homemade hats.

The vendors will be displaying their items all day long. There will also be live music from numerous bands, including Ten Dollar Pony, out of Reno, Sick Monkey Records, out of Reno, Jim Allender on the ukulele, out of Silver City, James Ames and the Weapons of Love, out of Reno, and Highway Jones, out of Reno.

Hamburgers and hot dogs will be sold from around noon to 3 p.m. and Margarita Beach will be open. There will be a barbecue rib and tri-tip dinner served from around 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. for $14 a plate.

The evening of June 14 will bring the Freakers Ball, starting outside at dusk. The live band Bourgeois Gypsies will light up the night as people dance to their tunes. The ball will last until 11 p.m.

June 15 will see breakfast burritos being served at 8 a.m. for $5 each and then live music and vendors until noon when the event comes to a close.

Last year was the first jubilee and it attracted around 150 people from Smoky Valley, Kingston and Carson City, said Ann Miles. This year, she and her husband are preparing for 300.

The lodge is already booked for the three days but tent and RV camping are available. For more information on the event or the tent or RV camping, call John or Ann Miles at (775) 964-1046.

RV camping is $10 and tent camping is $5. The Miles are asking people to leave their dogs home and that no camp fires be made.
