Kingston Cemetery revamped

On May 17, friends and residents of Kingston gathered at the new gates of their cemetery. After a full year of effort, Kingston's Cemetery was brought up to a proud standard, complete with new arched gateway indicating "Kingston," new fencing, new outlined and graveled walkways, new plants, new water system, and clean and tidy grave sites.

A year ago, Kingston resident Gary Kemp, felt the Kingston Cemetery was in a disgraceful condition and deserved to be cleaned up and made something that we could be proud of.

With focused endeavor, he approached the Lander County Convention and Tourism with his ideas to improve and showcase our cemetery. They were impressed with his goals and passion, and granted him $5,000 to achieve his ends.

With the help of many volunteers and businesses and the assistance of the Nevada Department of Prisons, the cemetery was developed into what is should be.

"This project could not of been accomplished without the community behind these efforts," Kemp said.

Following the re-dedication ceremony, everyone was invited to Miles End Lodge for a cemetery-sponsored free barbecue hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and sodas.

Kingston recognizes Kemp for conceiving this project. He was involved in all aspects in it's success, from mixing concrete, raking and pulling weeds, and digging/planting Joshua trees.[[In-content Ad]]
