Accompanied by a friendly public safety volunteer, some local kids get the chance to shop for Christmas gifts they wouldn't necessarily have the chance to buy. The Kidz-n-Cops program provides a shopping spree to qualifying children (ages five to 12) in the Humboldt County area.
While the actual shopping trip takes place closer to Christmas, the Kidz-n-Cops program is gearing up for the holiday now. Families who would like to apply may pick up an application at the Winnemucca Police Station, located at 500 East Winnemucca Boulevard, during regular business hours. An application may also be requested by mail.
The deadline to submit completed applications is 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1.
Mike Pardovich, director of Kidz-n-Cops said the program helps about 20 to 25 children every year. Volunteers from the Winnemucca Police Department, Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, the volunteer fire departments, and EMS personnel accompany the children as they buy clothes, toys and whatever else they might want.
Pardovich said cash donations would be very welcome and would ensure that local, disadvantaged children have a merry Christmas. For further information, contact Pardovich at 421-1746.[[In-content Ad]]
