Keith Birdeon Woodcook, age 59, also known as Woody or Desertdog, passed away Feb. 24, 2012, in Winnemucca. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy & Virginia, brother, Dave; and grandson, Theron. He is survived by his wife, Veldene; 3 daughters, Trina, Tavia, Tamara; son, Trevor; 9 grandsons, 8 granddaughters, his twin sister, Kathy; brother, Jim; sister, Judy; in laws, numerous nieces and nephews, dear friends, fishing buddies, a bird dog, two cats, and happy fish everywhere.

The memorial will be on Thursday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1305 East Mary Way, Winnemucca. In lieu of flowers, we are asking that donations be sent to the Frontier Community Action Agency, 640 Melarkey St., Suite 3. There are presently no grief counseling agencies in Winnemucca, and donations in Keith Woodcook's name will be used to establish a Solace Tree Chapter in town.

Keith was originally from Lacey, Wash. He graduated from North Thurston High School. Living in the Pacific Northwest he developed a grand passion for fishing and the great outdoors. He served four years in the U.S. Navy amid the Vietnam era onboard the USS Kittyhawk. During that time he met and married Veldene, the love of his life and wife of 38 years. He received his B.S at Utah State University. He was employed as the Senior Safety Advisor at North Valmy Power Plant at the time of his death. In his life, he lived in Washington, California, Utah, Wyoming, and Nevada. He has lived in Winnemucca for 20 years. Keith stated his greatest accomplishment was marrying Veldene and raising their children and grandchildren. May the rivers you run now always be in, and full of bright fish. We love you. He will be missed.
