Kathie Lee (Dayton) Varnum, 62, of Reno passed on April 7, 2014 after a brave fight against cancer. Born Sept. 17, 1951 in Goldendale, Wash. to Dayle and Bonnie Dayton, Kathie was the fourth of eight children. She attended school in Winnemucca, Nev. and moved to Reno, Nev. in 1972 where she met her husband of 40 years Richard ("Rick") Lee Varnum who affectionately called her "Bubba". They raised their family in Reno and had a loving home that was open to all.
Kathie was a caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and Aunt who most enjoyed spending time with her family. She could always be found at any sporting activity, dance recital, music program, play, race that involved her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the family camping trips to Pyramid Lake, Rye Patch and "Miltsville".
Kathie is survived by her husband Rick Varnum and mother Bonnie Dayton; children Kellie Watts (John), Travyce Varnum (Becky), Crystal Carter (Shawn), and Daylene Franklin (Jason); sisters Dede Beierle, Daylene Hendricks (Bart), Lynn Dayton (Paul Siemon) and Anne Clark (Gary); brothers David Dayton (Cindy) and Dayle "JR" Dayton (Vicky). Kathie also leaves behind her beloved (17) grandchildren and (12) great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Kathie was preceded in death by her father Dayle Dayton Sr. and brothers Ronald Dayton and Dennis Dayton.[[In-content Ad]]
