Jungo Nevada Section Crew

This is the crew for the Jungo Section about 1949. Their foreman, Howard McMahon, is the gentleman wearing sunglasses standing in front. We don't have the names of the section workers.

These gentleman were lucky. Jungo had a store and a hotel run by the Austins. There'd have been cold beer inside. A real reward after working on the tracks all day! Other sections further west on the Black Rock were much more isolated. No stores and no cold beer.

Most section workers didn't have automobiles. To keep their section hands and gandy dancers satisfied the railroad provided transportation into town (Winnemucca) on the Zephyrette. This was a diesel powered single passenger car. Slow transportation since it stopped at every railroad section to pick up passengers and drop off supplies. Considering the deplorable condition of the roads of the time, it was a smoother ride and faster than driving![[In-content Ad]]
