Joyce Moore

1950 - 2014

Joyce Moore, longtime resident of Winnemucca, passed away on Dec 3., 2014, at Renown Medical Center with her youngest daughter by her side. She was the only child born to Cecil and Laura Price in York, Pa., on May 2, 1950.

She met the love of her life, Henry Moore, in New Jersey. They moved out west so he could pursue his love of mining. They married in Ely, Nev., in 1967 and soon after started a family.

They finally settled in Winnemucca in 1985. Joyce was initially a client of JOIN where she went to get her adult diploma. She became an employee in June 1988, where she worked her way up the ranks to become the Winnemucca branch manager. She helped many people and touched a lot of lives. She even made quite a few friends along the way.

Her first love was her family, second was her horses. If you never met Joyce, but attended the rodeo, she probably took your money/tickets at the gate. Or you heard her announce for the children's events and even more recently, the cow dog trials at the Senior Rodeo. If the event involved horses, she wanted to be a part of it. She was also a former member of the Pershing County planning commission and Winnemucca Rotary Club.

Joyce is survived by her five children, Dawn (Christopher) Thompson, Samuel (Kathy) Moore, Leona Essman, Yvonne (Richard) Sonday, and John (Marlene) Moore. She has 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her mother Laura Price and her husband Henry Moore.

Joyce's final wishes are to be cremated and spread along with her late husband. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. in the Comstock room, upstairs in the East Hall of the convention center, under the direction of Pastor Gayle Basten. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the local 4H Club or the local United Methodist Church. Dessert and coffee will follow the service. If you wish to bring a dessert to share, please do so.
