Joseph Goodall Lucas III

Joseph Goodall Lucas III, 85, of Winnemucca, passed away Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Humboldt General Hospital. He was born on July 22, 1926 in Arkabutla, Mississippi to Joseph Goodall Lucas II and Ava Mai White Lucas. He was married for eighteen years to Montine E. Bean and for eighteen years to Margaret Hamm. During his life he lived in Brinkley, Arkansas and moved to Buena Vista, Colorado in 1956 and lived there and retired from Climax Molybdenum Company in 1953. He then moved to Sneads, Florida and lived there until 1992. He then moved to Winnemucca and has lived here since.

Joseph served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Winnemucca and was a charter member of the Mountain Heights Southern Baptist Church and has been a member of the Masons for over fifty years. He was a member of the Lions Club and served as fire chief for the Buena Vista, Colorado Fire Department. He also volunteered for various organizations and charities and served as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He loved fishing, camping and the great outdoors. He loved watching and participating in sports and was a left handed batter for Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatebia, Mississippi.

He is survived by his sons, James Guy (Kim) Lucas of Battle Mountain and Jerald Lee (Silvia Natividad) Lucas of Winnemucca; grandchildren Chadwick Lee Lucas of Salida, Colorado, Sabrena Dawn Lucas of Powell, Wyoming, TedDee JoLynn Lucas and Houston Cameron Lucas of Battle Mountain, Nevada; great grandchildren, Haylee, Rachelle, Ashten, Wrangler, J.T. Cash and Marissa Lucas; one sister, Maurice E. Lucas Kellum of Tupelo, Mississippi and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

A viewing will take place from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Friday July 20, 2012 at the United Methodist Church of Winnemucca. Funeral services will immediately follow, also at the church. Burial will take place at the Battle Mountain Cemetery following the funeral service. Those wishing to share memories with the family may do so at albertsonfuneralhome.com.
