On June 12, 2012, Joseph D. Shannon succumbed to seizures after experiencing a fall at his home. He was born on Nov. 24, 1927, in Duluth, Minn., to Jerome and Ruth (Allison) Shannon.

Joe retired from school employment in San Jose, Calif., in 1984. He spent 32 years as a teacher and school administrator. After moving to Nevada in 1986 he worked for the NV prison system as a Case Worker and then as a Deputy Sheriff in Humboldt County.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Jeanne Sanders.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Ann (Klaumann) Shannon, his children Toni (Steve) Thomas, Kevin (Astrid) Shannon, and step children Thomas (Ginger) Bidegary, Robert Bidegary, nieces Virginia Armetta, Cindy Sanders and Kitty Carr, and grandchildren Steve Thomas, Teresa Thomas, Tom Shannon, Brian Shannon, Patrick Shannon, Adam (Kelli) Bidegary, Tamra Bidegary, Seth Bidegary, Jill (Ryan) Prew, Matt (Karen) Armetta and great grandchildren Lia Rose Bidegary, Chloe Bidegary, Addison Bidegary, Jackson Prew, Kate Prew, Kai Orozco and Austin Orozco.

Joe spent many years writing a human interest column for the Humboldt Sun titled Shannon's Shenanigans for which he greatly enjoyed.

Burial will be on Tuesday, June 19, at 11 a.m. at the Paradise Valley, Nevada Cemetery.
