LOVELOCK - Life events have a way of flinging us around. A combination of school, work, marriage, divorce and restlessness have carried me to far-flung areas of the globe but ultimately deposited me in this small rural town that I've come to deeply care about.

My most recent job was substitute teaching for the Pershing County School District. I particularly enjoyed my time at the high school, so attending and covering their sports events, which will be my major responsibility, will be a pleasure.

Because I'm new to newspaper writing I expect to make some mistakes. Substitute teaching thickens your skin so feel free to let me know how you think I'm doing. My goal is to steadily improve.

If any athletes want to stop by and discuss the finer points of their sport with me I'm all ears. Feel free to let me know if there's anything you want me to add to my coverage of your event. And if any of Mr. Fuller's middle-schoolers want to drop by and help me figure out my cell phone, I've got a bag of Hershey's Kisses stuffed in the bottom drawer of my desk. Hurry up before I eat them all.[[In-content Ad]]
