John Raymond Luna, 91, passed away July 28, 2014, in Winnemucca, Nev., with his children by his side.
John was born March 25, 1923, in Jungo, Nev., to Pedro and Carmen Luna and was one of 17 children. He attended school in Battle Mountain, Nev., until the age of 17 when he enlisted in the United States Army. John served in the 124th Infantry Regiment and received an Honorable Discharge in 1945. He returned to Battle Mountain where he began to work construction. John later went to work with the Southern Pacific Railroad for 42 years. John married Josephine Leon on Oct. 4, 1947, in Battle Mountain, Nev. They had four children Rorie, Vickie, Jamie, and John. John and Josephine enjoyed 65 years of marriage. John was a man of character with amazing sense of humor; he knew no stranger and was a proud man who lived his life on his own terms. John loved his family and friends, and a good cup of coffee, and a funny joke.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Josephine, daughter Jamie Pace, grandson Ben Kieser, sisters: Carmen Perfecto, Juanita Levya, Sabina Luna, Mary Luna, brothers: Larry, Philip, Andy, and Babb Luna.
John is survived by children Rorie Luna of Winnemucca, Vickie (Bruce) Easterday of McDermitt, and John Luna of Reno, Nev., six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters: Evelyn Chavez and Dolores Luna, Margaret Suarez and Rosie Denton. Brothers Pete Luna, Dan Hernandez, Sam (Lynn) Hernandez, Rudy (Kina) Hernandez, numerous nieces and nephews.
