John E. Jenista

Aug. 12, 1938 - May 26, 2013

John passed away in Reno after a lengthy illness. He was born in Elko, Nevada to James 'Jim' Jenista and Viola Jenista, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother Jim, of Winnemucca, nephew, Dr. James Jenista of Scottsdale, Ariz., and niece Jana Rae Jenista of Boise, Idaho; his lifelong companion Donna Hampton of Washoe Valley, Nev.

John and family moved to Winnemucca in 1939, schooled at Winnemucca Grammar School and HCHS. After school went to work (for a short time) for the Western Pacific RR as a gandy dancer. John found it easier working at Sewells Grocery store, later becoming a meat cutter.

He was a member of the Nevada National Guard attaining the rank of sergeant. He moved to Carson City working for Sewell's and Greenbrae's then on to Safeway becoming a meat merchandiser. After a lengthy career he retired and was enjoying life and travels.

John could not say no to anyone that needed work or anything done. He will be greatly missed, by all who knew and loved him. At his request, he will be cremated and there will be no services.[[In-content Ad]]
