1935 - 2013
John ( J.D.) Ross, 78, of St. Joseph, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at his home.
J.D. was born on May 9, 1935 in Decatur, Ill., to John C. and LeGreta B. (Bowman) Ross. The family later moved to Independence, Mo., where he graduated from high school. He married Sherry Eads in 1957. She preceded him in death in 2007. He served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961.
J.D. was an electrical technician at Armco Steel, Kansas City Power and Light and then moved to Winnemucca, Nevada in 1984 where he worked for Sierra Pacific Power Company from which he retired. After his retirement he moved back to St. Joseph to be closer to his family.
He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed dancing, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his family and friends.
J.D. married Dorothy Evans in 2010; she survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons,
J.R. Ross (Leslie), Curtis Ross (Diane), stepson, Dean A. Penn (Fatima); four grandchildren, Jonathan, Jessica, Cristine and Justin; one great-grandchild, Decklyn, all of St. Joseph; one sister, Phyllis Tittle, Independence.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday followed by a Celebration of Life at 7 p.m. at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Mr. Ross has been cremated. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Ashland Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
