Janet Lee (Wesner) Davenport

Janet Lee (Wesner) Davenport, age 73, died suddenly on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012. Born on Dec. 10, 1938, in Napa, Calif., the eldest child of George and Stella Gomez, Janet was the great-great-granddaughter of early pioneer Andrew Jackson Raney, who originally traveled across the Great Plains to California in 1848. After a brief stint in the goldfields, Raney settled in Capell Valley where he eventually purchased a ranch that remains in the family today. Janet and Bingo Wesner and their two children moved to Lovelock in 1971 where they bought a horse and alfalfa ranch.

Janet loved her horses from early childhood to her death. She was an avid horsewoman. She and her husband, Marvin, raised and sold horses (Andalusians and Quarter Horses) for 33 years. Throughout her life she was a busy lady. Janet was Justice of the Peace of Pershing County, Real Estate Agent, and bookkeeper.

Janet is survived by her husband, Marvin E. Davenport; two children, a son Bing G. Wesner and a daughter Dianne E. Wesner; one sister, Joyce (John) Barnes; three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; and two nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her parents, George and Stella Gomez, and one sibling George.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ross, Burke, & Knobel Mortuary, 1538 "C" Street, Sparks, Nev., where a viewing will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at 5 p.m. A Liturgical Service will also be held at Ross, Burke, & Knobel Mortuary on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Veterans' Cemetery in Fernley, Nev.
