In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 7, 2014, at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas, Wyo., James Floyd "Jim" Bromley Jr., 73, of Bill, Wyo., was called home, his earthly journey ended.
Jim was born March 27, 1941, in Odessa, Texas. He was the first born of James F. Bromley and his wife Eva. The family moved to Long Beach, Calif., when Jim was young and he spent most of his growing up years there. He moved to Denver, Colo., in the mid 1960s and to Bill, Wyo., in 1973. He spent 18 years in Battle Mountain, Nev., before moving back to Bill in 2003.
Serving in the United States Marine Corps, Jim was honorably discharged in 1963. He served in the Philippines, and as a military advisor in Vietnam. After discharge from the Corps he worked in law enforcement until the mid-1970s. He then worked in mining until retirement in 2004, when he then took care of his two youngest children James and Maria. In 1987 he took a break from mining to be the proud owner of the Round Trip Café in Valmy, Nev.
In 1962 he married Alice Fudge in Long Beach, Calif. They later divorced. He married his present wife, Rebecca, on August 4, 1985, in Las Vegas, Nev. Their marriage was blessed in the Catholic Church on February 29, 1992, by their good friend Father James Setelik in Elko, Nev.
A gun rights supporter and gun owner, Jim had an extensive knowledge of fire arms, and was an exceptional marksman. He loved teaching his children gun safety and marksmanship. He rode a Harley Davidson from the age of 15 until ill health forced him to abandon riding. He was a member of the Warlords Motorcycle Club of California and Denver, and a founding member of ABATE of Nevada. Building things brought him much happiness. A member of his family, especially his wife, would come up with an idea and he would make it happen.
Jim was proud of his Native American heritage. He was a member of the Pottawatomi tribe, Citizens Band. He handcrafted many fine Indian items that he shared with friends and family. One of his proudest moments was dancing with his children at a Pow Wow in Shawnee, Okla. He designed and hand made their costumes.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca, of Bill; children, Quint (Keeva) Bromley of Long Beach, Calif., Etenn Layton of Indian Springs, Nev., Maria Bromley, and James Bromley both of Douglas; and grandchildren, River Bromley of Long Beach and Izabella Thompson of Douglas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, James Anthony; his brother, Charles, new born twin brothers; and club brother and lifelong best friend, William Hanegan.
Jim was a strong, honorable, loving, honest man, and will be missed terribly. His friends and family would like to thank the Lord for the time we had with him here on this earth.
