James Edwin Matson, 95, long time Fallon resident, passed away at Manor Care in Reno Sunday, July 10, 2011.
Jim was one of seven children born to James and Daisy Belle Matson. He was born November 25,1915 in West Point, CA.
In his younger years Jim worked construction, driving heavy equipment. In the 30's he drove truck, hauling propane, logs or cement. In 1951 the family moved to Paradise Valley, where he managed a ranch for his father-in-law. The family moved into Fallon in1962 where once again he worked construction for Dodge and Drumm. Jim with his wife, Gladys moved into Reno in 1967 where they managed a retirement home until their own retirement in 1980. They moved back to Fallon, where they have lived until the time of his death.Jim served on the Fish and Wildlife Board in Humboldt County while living in Paradise Valley.Jim was an avid A's fan,and loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of Epworth Methodist Church and the Odd Fellows.
Preceded in death by his parents; son, James N. Matson and all his siblings. Jim is survived by his wife of 70 years, Gladys; daughter, Laura Wright; grandchildren,Tamaron Wright; Vareck Wright; James Joseph Matson; Nicholas Matson; great- grandchildren,Anthony and Brooke Leavitt; Tevin; Brianna and CJ Wright; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be at 9:30 A M on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at The Gardens Funeral Home with burial to be at Churchill County
Cemetery at 10:30 AM. A Celebration of Jim's life will be held at 11:15 A M at Epworth United Methodist Church.
