To quote Jim, "My mother Sabina Baadte was a farmer's daughter from Iowa. My father Michael Francis Connor was a traveling salesman from Massachusetts. They met in New Orleans and I was born 11-05-1928 in Lakewood, Ohio."
James attended prep school at Western Reserve Academy in Ohio and then moved to the west coast. He graduated from University High School in Los Angeles. He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17 and served from September 1946 to June 1948. He returned to Los Angeles and received an AA degree at Pasadena City College and then attended UCLA and Loyola Law School. Jim was a Mensa member.
In 1955, he moved to Nevada. In business he worked as an accountant and/or business manager. First he worked for a mine near Basalt, Nev. He worked for the Jackson Mountain iron mine in 1960, MK Construction in 1978, and Pinson Gold in 1979 until his retirement.
Jim was a member of Winnemucca Masons Lodge No. 19 and the Shriners International. He was a volunteer ambulance driver and served on the Humboldt County Hospital Board.
On May 27, 1985 he married Loraine Laucirica. Together they traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. They enjoyed many SF Giants baseball games. Jim enjoyed planes and trains and had a private pilot's license. He was a voracious reader and always had three or four books checked out of the local library.
