WINNEMUCCA - If you want to see one of country music's hottest stars up close and personal this Labor Day weekend, you better act fast. Jake Owen will perform for tri-county crowds beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Winnemucca Event Center. Billy Dean, who has quite a country pedigree himself, will open the show. Winnemucca Convention and Visitors Authority Director Kim Petersen said the show is on its way to being sold out, "so we thought we better let folks know that if you want to be in that event center when Jake Owen performs, you need to act now." Petersen said he has been amazed - and pleased - at the way tickets have flown out the door. "It was a gamble in the beginning, to see if folks would really support a big-name event like this, and our gamble is certainly paying off," he said. Petersen said the concert will infuse the annual Tri-County Fair & Stampede Labor Day weekend with exciting energy that he hopes will spill over into the weekend's many other offerings, including the annual parade, rodeo, carnival and competitions. "This is a rare opportunity for all of us to see a big name star in this venue," said Petersen. "It's a once-in-a-lifetime event to see him here in Winnemucca." His debut album, Startin' with Me, appeared in summer 2006 on RCA, spearheaded by the single "Yee Haw." Easy Does It followed in February of 2009. He delivered his third album, Barefoot Blue Jean Night, in the summer of 2011. Owen's current hit, "Alone With You," has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, and he kicked off a stadium tour June 2 with superstar singers Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw. "This is a big deal for Winnemucca to have this level of talent," said Petersen, adding that the concert's success so far bodes well for more big-name entertainment in the future. "You won't want to miss this show," he said. "It's going to be a great night." Tickets for the Jake Owen concert as well as the Labor Day Rodeo are now on sale at www.winnemucca.com. Cost is $30 for general admission seating. Reserved seating is $45 or $75. For more information, please call the Winnemucca Convention and Visitors Authority at (775) 623-5071 or (800) 962-2638.
