BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Jacob's Well Youth Center (JWYC) bids farewell to Caitlin Updike, Newmont summer student, and Blair Keller, Goldcorp summer student.
The board of directors would like to thank both Newmont and Goldcorp for placing students at the youth center. Hours were extended, activities were executed, and most importantly, the youth of Battle Mountain enjoyed a safe place to hang out this summer.
Visitation to JWYC in June and July was upward of 400 youth and on July 31, 40 youth visited the center - the highest visitation this year. The center averaged about 12 youth per day in June and 17 youth per day in July.
Updike implemented youth Bingo every third Thursday of the month, obtained literature from more than 30 colleges and universities for youth to explore opportunities after high school and, most importantly, created great rapport with the youth.
Keller maintained the website, JWYC's social media presence, developed a brochure, magnet, flag banners, marketing plan and initiated a food program that is on course to be implemented late fall.
The board of directors wishes these ladies great success in their future endeavors and sincerely hope that their experiences at Jacob's Well have been beneficial to their education and future career paths. They will be greatly missed.
Jacob's Well would also like to thank all of the community members that donated bake sale items for the first bake sale on Aug. 9 - Trish Hanson, Shar Peterson, Brynn Peterson, Mandi Mudd, Lisa Burkhart, Caitlin Updike, Blair Keller and Brenda Keller.
A special thank you to Brian Garner for supplying the light tower before the sun came up on the morning of the bake sale. Jacob's Well is more than $370 closer to a new air hockey table, thanks to the community members that stopped by to pick up delicious home baked goods.
