Battle Mountain residents will get a rare treat March 13 at 6 p.m. at the Battle Mountain Civic Center when the duo Men of Worth will blend their voices with a variety of instruments.
Their show is a combination of soulful Irish/Scottish tunes, heartfelt ballads and tales.
James Keigher, who lives in southern Oregon, and his longtime friend and bandmate, Donnie Macdonald of Sacramento, are excited to return to Battle Mountain, where they have been playing off and on since the early 2000s, Keigher said.
They are always well-received by the town when they perform and also by local school children when they enter the schools to give presentations on their Irish and Scottish heritages, he added.
The day of the show, the duo will visit local schools and put on workshops where they will talk about their different musical instruments and their backgrounds.
In addition to performing and educating children, they enjoy visiting with the longtime friends they have in Battle Mountain. They are looking forward to having a good time when they get here, Keigher said. The hospitality is great and the people are genuine, he added.
"We always get such a great and loyal response from various people there," Keigher said. "We like coming back. It's one of the many venues that remind us of being home. We love coming back because it's a small community. It's great. We really, really do appreciate the smaller community and we love going into the schools. Battle Mountain, among many others, has always been very gracious about their time and making it happen."
Ami Rogers, president of the non-profit Battle Mountain Arts Presenters, which is sponsoring the show, said her group brings Men of Worth to town every few years and the show is one of its highest-attended events. Rogers is hoping to see around 200 to 300 people this year.
"Probably the most interesting thing about their show, aside from the music, is they tell a lot of stories about their background and heritage," Rogers said. "They are very entertaining. We are very grateful that they think of us when they are building their schedules. They enjoy coming to Battle Mountain."
Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and children and $20 for families. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

BMAP tries to bring in three to five artists a year to Battle Mountain. All of the proceeds go toward bringing in more artists. They also bring in the Missoula Children's Theater, which was here in October.
Rogers said the group's goal is to "provide arts experience to the public at little or no cost to them."
BMAP also took over hosting the town's Fourth of July celebration in 2013 and plans to do the same this summer, Rogers said.
The group is always looking for new members and Rogers urged people to join. Anyone who would like to volunteer or wants more information can call her.
