Indiana man dead after motorcycle crash on U.S. 50

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - A Mooresville, Ind., man was killed July 23 in a motorcycle crash on U.S. 50, approximately 20 miles east of Austin.

According to the Nevada Department of Public Safety - Highway Patrol Division, at around 2:35 p.m., a 1999 Honda motorcycle was westbound on U.S. 50 when the motorcycle drove off the roadway and struck a road marker. The motorcycle then overturned, ejecting the rider.

Preliminary investigation reveals that William H. Woodford, 68, was driving the motorcycle when he allowed it to drift onto the dirt shoulder, where it struck a road marker post, the NHP said.

Woodford attempted to steer left to regain the roadway, which caused the motorcycle to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction. The motorcycle subsequently overturned, ejecting the driver.

Woodford sustained critical injuries and died while en route to the hospital. He was wearing a helmet.

This crash is currently under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is encouraged to call the Nevada Highway Patrol at (775) 753-1111.
