IMLAY - The Imlay Auxiliary held its Service Appreciation Ceremony on Dec. 10. The annual event has been held for six years, Imlay Auxiliary Secretary Terry Sherbinow said.
"It's our way of saying thank you to those who help out our community," Sherbinow said.
This year's honorees were Alamo Casino, Florida Canyon Mine, Star Point Trading Post, Tim and Margareta Delong, Tim and Jessica Bradley, Tom and Tamra Bradley, Jared York, Nelda Stevens, Ed Urschel, Karren Bard and auxiliary President Julie Robbins.
Sherbinow said that each honoree has exhibited great community service. Alamo Casino and owner Rob Cashell have supported the Imlay Auxiliary for years with donations for raffles, Sherbinow said.
"Most recently Alamo made a nice donation toward the renovation of the old Imlay fire truck," Sherbinow said.
Chris Harmon, assistant general manager of the Mill City casino, accepted the award on behalf of Cashell and Alamo Casino.
"Rob and the whole Cashell family are very community oriented. Rob is pretty quiet about what he does. I didn't even know he had donated until he asked me to accept this for him," Harmon said.
Florida Canyon Mine was also recognized for their donation to the renovation of the truck.
Star Point Trading Post was recognized for its ongoing support of the Imlay Auxiliary and for its support of the community as a whole, Sherbinow said.
"Dusti (Esenarro, owner of Star Point Trading Post) has helped the auxiliary with numerous fundraisers and she has supported the Imlay Fire Department and helps with the Angel Tree every year. So she does a lot for the whole community," Sherbinow said.
Tim and Margareta Delong were recognized for donations they had made to the Imlay Volunteer Fire Department through the Imlay Auxiliary.
Tim and Jessica Bradley, Tom and Tamra Bradley and Jared York were recognized for their helpfulness to the auxiliary, Sherbinow said.
"Any time we needed something heavy moved or anything that we couldn't physically do these guys were right here to help whenever we asked," Sherbinow said.
Jessica Bradley is the newest member of the Imlay Auxiliary.
"I like helping people and it seemed like it would be fun," Bradley said as to why she joined the auxiliary.
"Nelda Stevens donated her time last year to cook a wonderful Valentines dinner for us (auxiliary)," Sherbinow explained.
Ed Urschel and Karren Bard were recognized for their efforts on the Imlay Sewer Board. Urschel acts as the president of the board and Bard is the treasurer. Both are volunteer positions. The Imlay Sewer Board is in the process of updating the system. Urschel is responsible for securing at least one grant for the sewer system, Sherbinow said.
"It's not something I need to be rewarded for, I want to be able to flush my toilet too," Urschel said humbly.
"We normally don't give awards to our own committee members but Julie has been with the group since its inception. She has been the president for many years. She is devoted to helping Imlay and the auxiliary with their community causes. She's an inspiration to us all," Sherbinow said.
