IMLAY - The Imlay Auxiliary held its sixth Service Appreciation Ceremony Dec. 14 at the Imlay Community Center. During the ceremony Imlay Town Board retirees were honored and the winners of the board's Christmas light contest were announced.

Auxiliary Vice President Jessica Castillo said the ceremony was started to honor those whose voluntary service has benefited the town of Imlay and its residents. Nominations for service appreciation awards are taken by the auxiliary starting in November.

"We also recognize those who have supported the auxiliary with our events throughout the year," Castillo said.

Individuals recognized for service to their neighbors were Imlay residents Robert Thacker, Mark Montes, Ron Parton, Matthew McGillic and Mill City resident Earl Dudley.

Individuals recognized for their service of beautification to the town of Imlay were J.P and Joanie Hayes, Leo and Marie Menicucci, Yvonne Chase and Joyce Wilcox.

Businesses recognized for their support of the Imlay Auxiliary were Stove and Patio Center, Star Point Trading Post and Turn 3 Store. Other businesses recognized but not at the ceremony were Alamo Casino, Big R, Khoury's, Raley's, Uptown Market, Reliable Hareware, CB Brown's and Winnemucca Publishing.

The Imlay Town Board held its first Christmas light contest this year. There were eight entries. Judges of the contest were Pershing County Justice of the Peace Karen Stephens, Karen Beatty-Lee and Virgil Pinkston.

Town board member Brenda Pinkston said that the contest was open to residents throughout the area but the only entries that were received were from the town of Imlay. Entries were judged on creativity, effort and reason for the season, she said.

"I hope we get more entries from the outlaying area next year," Pinkston said.

The first place winner was Atla Mae DelaVega, second place was Joe and Jamie St. Pierre and third place went to Robert and Jeanie Montes.

The first place prize of $100 was donated by Virgil and Brenda Pinkston and John and Tina Menicucci. The second place prize of 15 bags of stove pellets was donated by Stove and Patio Center and the third place prize of dinner for two at Star Point Trading Post was donated by Star Point Trading Post.

Two members of the Imlay Town Board retired in December from the board after five years of service. The town board recognized Dan Cavoto and Ron Parton for their years of service at the ceremony.
