WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt Volunteer Hospice is always looking for ways to raise money to help this community's chronically and terminally ill residents.
Beginning this week, hospice volunteers will be at it again with what they hope will be one of their best - and certainly most beautiful - efforts to raise funds.
The group will be selling raffle tickets for a quilt donated by Bev's Bevy Quilters. The quilt was made by Beverly Sulllivan, Cynthia Knight, Kellie Mills, Dottie Souza, La Wana Ferrier and Renae Belingheri; Renae Belingheri also donated her time to complete the quilting.
Raffle tickets are now on sale at the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice's Frugal Flamingo Thrift Shop located at 720 E. Fourth St. Cost is $1 each or six for $5.
Hospice also will be selling raffle tickets at the Boy Scout Craft Fair, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Winnemucca Events Complex Exhibit Hall.
The drawing for the quilt will take place at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at the Frugal Flamingo; participants do not need to be present to win.
Tickets also may be purchased in advance from any hospice volunteer or at the hospice office located in the JOIN building. Information or tickets are also available by calling (775) 625-4263.
This is the third time that Bev's Bevy Quilters have donated a raffle quilt to the hospice organization.
"It's such a great way for us to kick off our holiday season," said HVH Executive Director Sherry Smith. "We are so thankful for these wonderful women and their support of Humboldt Volunteer Hospice."
Smith said community support is critical to allowing the hospice organization to help those facing end-of-life situations as well as those suffering from chronic illness.
