WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt Volunteer Hospice hosted a raffle over the holidays that not only saw residents win some great prizes, but helped shore up the nonprofit's bank account.
"Our community had a great time with this raffle," said HVH Executive Director Sherry Smith, "we had a lot of fun, and we also made some money; we cannot thank our community enough for their untiring support."
The group began selling raffle tickets last November for a quilt donated by Sharon Smith. Additionally, volunteers assembled a host of beautiful gift baskets, made in part with the donations the shop receives each week.
All raffle proceeds will go toward the hospice organization as it helps those facing end-of-life situations as well as those suffering from chronic illness.
The drawing was held on December 23 with local resident Nadine Hamm winning the coveted quilt. Linda Donaldson won a sheep donated by Cindy Murdock. Local resident Monica won an Americana basket, while Russ Neilson won a pottery basket, Barbara Horting won a kitchen basket, Joyce Wilcox won a pasta basket, Bob Hunt won a Lonesome Dove basket, and Paula Wright won a scrapbook basket.
"This was such a great way for us to kick off our holiday season," said Smith. "We are so thankful for all our wonderful donations and the way they support the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice."
The Humboldt Volunteer Hospice honors and supports individuals in the Humboldt County community who are suffering from a chronic, debilitating or terminal illness. All hospice care is provided at no cost to patients. Families do not need a doctor's referral in order to access hospice services.
