Humboldt Volunteer Hospice hoping to get support through 'Nevada's Big Give'

WINNEMUCCA - The Humboldt Volunteer Hospice is hoping to capitalize on a one-of-a-kind philanthropic event set for this week.

"Nevada's Big Give" is set for Thursday, Nov. 17. On that day, Nevada residents are encouraged to visit www.nvbiggive.org to participate in an online giving blitz that will benefit nonprofit organizations across the state.

The initiative was launched by NevadaGIVES. Volunteer Board President Stacey Wedding said, "We are extremely proud to bring this type of philanthropy event to Nevada, and we couldn't be happier about the response we've received from our community's nonprofit organizations."

Wedding added, "Online giving is truly the wave of the future, and it's an extremely easy way for people . . . who want to engage with local charities but don't know how to make those first steps into philanthropy."

Unlike any other philanthropic event, Nevada's Big Give is an opportunity to benefit all Nevada nonprofits by activating donations online. It's as simple as: Point. Click. Give. Every registered 501(c)(3) organization in Nevada will automatically be registered to participate and receive donations through the website www.nvbigive.org.

In Humboldt County, Humboldt Volunteer Hospice Executive Director Sherry Smith is hoping her organization will be a beneficiary.

"We are only able to help our patients through the generosity of others," said Smith. "Every dollar, every penny really, allows us to help our community's chronically and terminally ill patients."

In order to collect and process donations on November 17, NevadaGIVES will work with Razoo.com, a seasoned community giving day fundraising tool.

"We know that times are tough," said Wedding, "and we also know that's when Nevadans step up to help those in need in their community."

Wedding continued, "Whether you can afford to give $10 or $100, the beauty of this initiative is that when we all participate, even a small donation can have a big impact."

The Humboldt Volunteer Hospice is committed to honoring and supporting individuals in the Humboldt County community who are suffering from a chronic, debilitating or terminal illness. All hospice care is provided at no cost to patients. Families do not need a doctor's referral in order to access hospice services.
