Humboldt hospice big winner during Bealls' 'Month of Giving' campaign

In just about a month's time, local community members made a world of difference for the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice.

Last March, Humboldt Volunteer Hospice partnered with the new Bealls department store for its "Month of Giving" campaign.

From March 1 through March 27, Bealls customers had the opportunity to make a donation to the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice when shopping in the store via the register pin pad. Donations ranged from $1 and up.

"And those dollars really added up," said Humboldt Volunteer Hospice Executive Director Sherry Smith earlier this month as she showed off a check in the amount of $1,226. "This is what we received."

Under the "Month of Giving" campaign, hospice not only was promised 100 percent of all donations made during the month, but the Bealls parent company, Stage Stores, also committed to make an additional donation to the local non-profit.

"It was amazing and unbelievable," said Smith of the outpouring from both the corporate company and the community. "We would like to thank Bealls and the entire Stage Stores family, and the members of our local community, for supporting HVH."

According to a letter that accompanied hospice's donation check, Bealls launched its Community Counts program "to support local organizations that make a positive impact." The letter said the successful program raised over $896,000 for 700 organizations across the country.

The mission of the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice is to honor and support individuals in the Humboldt County community who suffer from a chronic, debilitating or terminal illness.

All hospice care is provided at no cost to patients. Families do not need a doctor's referral in order to access hospice services.

Hospice also operates the Frugal Flamingo Thrift Store, located at 720 E. Fourth Street. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Donations are gladly accepted during the store's hours of operation.[[In-content Ad]]
