Humboldt General Hospital welcomes new quality risk management director

WINNEMUCCA -Nora Andersen is making a concerted effort to align Humboldt General Hospital's healthcare vision with the organization's day-to-day practices.

Andersen has joined the facility, located at 118 E. Haskell Street in Winnemucca, as the new Quality/Risk Management Director.

"Every organization has a 'perfect world' scenario," said Andersen. "In a perfect world, we would be this kind of organization, or in a perfect world, we would do things this way."

Andersen continued, "My job is to help our organization align those goals with reality. Through careful monitoring and follow-up, we inch closer each day to the kind of healthcare system we dream of becoming."

Andersen is a native of Baker, California. For the past eight years she served as the Quality/Performance Administrator at the Northern Arizona Behavioral Health Authority.

When Humboldt General Hospital's former Quality/Risk Management Director Andy Hum took a job as the Manager of Quality Management at Phoenix Children's Hospital, Andersen and her husband jumped at the chance to come here.

"We loved the strong sense of community," said Andersen of their first impression of Winnemucca. "We are really happy to be here."

Andersen's job focuses on improving the quality of care that patients receive at the hospital, while minimizing the facility's potential for adverse incidents.

"I'm here to help all our departments look for best practices," she said, "for ways to hit a higher benchmark. We want all departments to have specific targets that they're working toward."

Andersen said that's her favorite part of her new position. "I truly enjoy working with staff, patients and families to improve their experience at Humboldt General Hospital," she said.

While Andersen is still defining what, if any, changes or additions she'd like to make in her new position, she is focused on helping the HGH team understand that quality comes first.

"We all need to be committed to doing what we can to make that happen," she said.
