Humboldt General Hospital warns residents of possible phone scam

Humboldt General Hospital is alerting residents to a possible phone scam.

On Monday, March 3, hospital officials collected a report from a local woman who said she received a phone call from a man who identified himself as Dr. Wilson Bernales, one of HGH's former physicians.

The man said he was calling from the hospital's Walk-In Clinic and asked for the woman's social security number and her mother's maiden name, which she proceeded to give him.

After hanging up, the woman felt strange about the exchange, at which point she called the hospital. Hospital administrators told her the hospital would never ask for personal identifying information except during a one-on-one registration process at the hospital.

Please be advised that someone impersonating Dr. Wilson Bernales, or perhaps other personnel from the hospital, may be calling local residents to seek personal identifying information.

Do not share that information. Call the police immediately.

Please call Humboldt General Hospital at (775) 623-5222, ext. 1123 with any questions. Residents may also stay updated on any developments in this case via the hospital's Facebook page.[[In-content Ad]]
