Humboldt General Hospital EMS to present EMT course

WINNEMUCCA - Area residents are invited to take their emergency training to a professional level beginning this month.

Humboldt General Hospital's Emergency Medical Services Rescue will host a nationally certified EMT Training Course from April 17 through June 30.

According to HGH EMS Education Coordinator Ken Whittaker, the course is directed at those who would like to become an emergency medical technician.

"This will give them the classroom instruction and the labs they will need to achieve that goal," said Whittaker.

Participants will meet from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the ambulance facility located adjacent to Humboldt General Hospital. Some Saturday instruction will also take place.

Whittaker said much of the instruction will center on basic medical concepts, terminology and skills at the EMT level.

Some of the course topics will include bleeding, splitting of fractures, managing airway obstruction, managing cardiac arrest and more. The first class on Tuesday, April 17, will begin with four hours of required CPR instruction.

Cost for the instruction is $800, which includes all books and materials. Application is mandatory prior to the first session. For more information or to apply, please call Ken Whittaker at (775) 623-5222, ext. 262.
