WINNEMUCCA -Area residents are invited to take their emergency training to a professional level beginning in April.
Humboldt General Hospital Emergency Medical Services Rescue will host a nationally certified EMT Course from April 2 through June 29.
According to HGH EMS Education Coordinator Ken Whittaker, the course is directed at those who would like to become an Emergency Medical Technician.
"This will give them the classroom instruction and the labs they will need to achieve that goal," said Whittaker.
Participants will meet from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the ambulance station located adjacent to Humboldt General Hospital in Winnemucca. Saturday instruction also will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 27, May 18, June 15 and June 22.
Whittaker said much of the instruction will center on basic medical concepts, terminology and skills at the EMT level. Some of the course topics will include bleeding, splinting of fractures, managing airway obstruction, managing cardiac arrest and more.
Students must have a Healthcare Provider CPR card or be certified as a Professional Rescuer in order to apply. Contact Debbie Whittaker at (775) 623-5222, ext. 263 to inquire about upcoming classes.
