HUMBOLDT GENERAL HOSPITAL EMS RESCUE TO PRESENT 'EMS REFRESHER'

WINNEMUCCA -Emergency services personnel from across the state are invited to Winnemucca next month to complete their continuing education requirements.

Humboldt General Hospital's Emergency Medical Services group will offer its "2012 24-Hour EMS Refresher" from Friday, Nov. 2, through Sunday, Nov. 4, at the East Hall of the Winnemucca Convention Center.

According to HGH EMS Rescue Education Coordinator Ken Whittaker, this year's program will offer classroom and on-site instruction for a well-rounded student experience.

"We've offered this '24-Hour EMS Refresher' since 2003," said Whittaker, "and each year we step it up even more to give our participants the best information possible as they move into the new year."

Whittaker said personnel from every aspect of emergency services are invited to attend, including representatives from the medical, fire, law enforcement and mining fields. "We've got something for everyone," he said.

This year's "EMS Refresher" lineup covers everything from report-writing techniques for EMS providers to rural trauma care to responding to emotionally charged patients.

Saturday, participants will move out into the community to take part in "Hands-On Skills Stations," where they will put into action the lecture information they receive earlier in the day. Participants are reminded to dress for the terrain and the weather.

Courses will be taught by representatives from HGH EMS Rescue and local law enforcement.

"Each year we are focused on making our annual refresher a place where EMS providers can access the most timely information and network with other EMS agencies from across the state," said Whittaker.

He added, "We are excited for this year's program and know that each participant will go away more prepared to help those in need."

Registration will take place from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the East Hall Winnemucca Convention Center.

A PEPP (Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals) course will take place earlier that day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants who pre-register for the conference by Friday, Oct. 26, pay only $125. The cost at the door is $175. The fee for the PEPP course is an additional $25.
